What is the difference between a web developer and a webmaster?

What the others write is pretty spot on. In general, webmasters manage the site overall (including gathering content, working with web developers, graphic artists, business stakeholders, etc.) to create a good online presence. A web developer works within one or multiple applications to create the actual Web site components. While the terms are often used interchangeably, they are different. A Web developer may be a webmaster, but I've never seen a webmaster be a web developer.

Regarding salary ranges, I'm not a big fan of salary.com (I think it ballparks too high). If you're in a metropolitan area, contact a local contracting company (e.g. KForce, Robert Half International, Kelly) and ask them for one of their salary guideline books. They give them out free and update the content every year. It'll give you a good idea of what range you can expect for your experience level, based on your metropolitan area, and for the type of business you'd target for your employer. Good luck!

What is the difference between a web developer and a webmaster?
Web developer - develops the site and gives it to someone else.

Web master - controls the site as well as develops it.
Reply:not much, they all think they know more than anyone else and they block *** which is a word in the bible so you decide
Reply:Web developers usually come up with the graphics, layout, code, etc. while the webmasters control the website.

It's always good to have both because the webmaster tells the web developer what they want to see on the website. The web developer has the ability to manipulate programs and software to design and create the website. The webmaster has the ability to watch over the website and keep track of what's happening (e.g. web traffic, statistics)

Sometimes, its good to play both parts and have overall control of what you are doing. That's if you are running a website by yourself. But it's always good to have two brains, creating one website.
Reply:Webmaster keeps track of what's going on on the website ;content,

a web developer programs the website and writes the code
Reply:Master can be anyone, they answer questions add files backup, changes, a web developer creates websites from apps like dreamweaver, java, flash etc. 1 creates and 1 just maintanes the site.
Reply:about $35.000 a year
