At 54 Am I too old to become a professional Web Developer?

I was planning to become an asp.net developer or flash developer. But job wise I wonder if I am not too old? How long will it take me to get there if I study every day 2 H? Also I only know html and some CSS. Thx.

2 hours a day? You would know it all by 5 months since you are not doing PHP. Any where from 3 to 5 months. You may also consider taking up a course or two on it (Online or near you). If you are retiring soon, then you could be a freelancer at:

http://www.getafreelancer.com

http://www.rentacoder.com

I suggest you do both websites. You could easily make a spare $300 a month. If you go full blown then you could make $500 - $900 a month. After that you may want to buy your own website and domain and offer your services professionaly. If you did this, or got hired by a company you would be making a living. While you learn these topics I suggest you go to http://www.webfree7.com you get:

name.freeweb7.com,

7gb Disk Space (Plenty Enough),

100gb Transfer (More than enough),

PHP,

Application Install,

MySQL,

7 Databases and users,

FTP access,

Permission Control,

and a nifty Control Panel for your website.

If you buy a domain name from http://www.godaddy.com or http://www.mydomains.com you can have your website be anything you want it to be, ex: www.name.com, instead of: name.webfree7.com.

I am not sure if asp will work, that is one of the Web Development languages I do not use. I prefer PHP.

Hope this helped in some way shape or form :P
Reply:Never too late.

What are you waiting for?

But 2 hr study time really isn't much.
Reply:It's probably best to look around your city and see which college %26amp; private school courses are available. Those private schools are can be pricey but they might have job placement assistance after you finish the course. If you go that route, then try to get as much information that you can about the school. Wait in front of the school and talk to the people who are taking classes there. Ask them if they know of anyone else who has taken the course and has gotten a job. Some of those schools are a scam.

You aren't too old to be a web developer and it is illegal to discriminate based on a person's age.
Reply:No, I'm 54, and started a new profession 10 years ago, I'd love to hire you as a web developer for my company. I started on a career in marketing 10 years ago and am now VP of Marketing for a software company. Being a web developer takes creativity, not youth.
Reply:with 2 hours a day will not take u so far, u should learn more.... with 2 hours u learn new technology in a year... then u find out things changed again.... but u could learn one side of things, like html, css, php, mysql....
Reply:Well if your already familiar with HTML, your half way there. I would recommend your local libary a find some books on formating in HTML... I design Business websites and I'm not a master in any programming languages. As long as you have HTML, you can look the other commands up online... Let me know if you need any help with your first site...
