i want to know if this class will help me in my quest to become a video game developer
Does web designing help me in my quest to become a video game developer?
Only if you learn scripting languages, just learning CSS and HTML will do little to help you.
If they have you learn JavaScript, JAVA, PHP, ASP, Perl or other scripting languages, then yes.
This is because scripting languages are programming languages and learning them carries over into learning other programming languages.
You'll want to learn C++, OpenGL and focus hard on design patterns. Google GOF design patterns.
Video game developing involves a lot of things. It's very departmental. Some people work on specific components, other graphics, others handling the user input/output.
Reply:It depends. I am going to assume that you want to end up as a video game programmer? Anyway, if your class does web designing using html then yes it is a great help. If they are using software with no coding then not really.
Reply:Sort of, but no. If you want to design games go to yoyo games website and download game maker. The trial can make full games with some limitations or upgrade cheap!

Reply:iN organizing things and making stuff yes it might but you need to know way more things that kinda of hard to explain
Reply:Yes. Learn XML. Some engines are starting to use it for their GUI.
Additionally, you'll want to put your portfolio online.
Reply:Well, if there is any other class that seems better to be a video game developer, then I would take it. It would definitely help with somethings, like you would get to know more about different programs required to do your field of work. You could get to know computers more.. which doesn't hurt.
Reply:I have a friend who currently has a degree in Web Design. He is pursuing a degree in Game Design. I know that Game Design and Game Developer aren't the same degree, but there are a lot of similiarities.
Web Designing may not help you to become a Game Developer, but it will definitely help you to become a 'successful' Game Developer. See the difference?
